SHELTER Sets: Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer

Relativity Media (2011) Jordana Beatty, Heather Graham Set Design: Cynthia Charette, Don Diers I have never seen this movie, but the images on the Set Decorators Society of America (SDSA) website captured my attention. The look of this film is the work of production designer Cynthia Charette and set decorator Don Diers. The designers took their inspiration from the Judy Moody books written by Megan McDonald and its black and white illustrations, drawn by Peter H. Reynolds. I could even stand the wallpaper, but I would need a richer, spicier rug. That sofa is a dream; the color, the comfy shape, and well, come on - it's velvet! I like that the furnishings used were from a myriad of sources; Pottery Barn, Home Goods, LampsPlus Crate & Barrel, Target, CraigsList and even local thrift stores. Image: Ken Haber The kitchen is a room where I might make a few more changes. Love the floor, not the rug, Change out the table and chairs for a round wooden table and black Windsor chairs. I would also exchange the chandelier for a old-time surface mounted light fixture, remove the quaint wallpaper, and paint the walls a nice cake batter yellow. SHELTER Sets: Just Like Heaven

Remove the "girl in the table" and what else could you ask for?!

How come I don't remember any bloggers talking about the gorgeous apartment in the movie Just Like Heaven? I got home last night in time to see the last 30 minutes, but the movie (with Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo) looks like something I might want to see again from the beginning. In that same 30 minutes, I fell in love with the characters' San Francisco apartment!

Unfortunately, I could only find a few film stills that show the apartment in the background. However, if you go to the movie's site and click on About The Movie, you can see this great shot of the living room into the kitchen.

If anyone knows of more images of the movie set, please let me know.

I also found a picture of the building that they used for the apartment's exterior.

Can You Help Me?

Here are two things that I have moved with me from one apartment to another. Neither of them has ever been displayed or used properly. Things like these are the true source of my clutter so please help me figure out what to do with them.

• One 4-lb bag of beach glass*.

• One $1 bill with director John Waters' autograph.
  (Obtained when he came to speak on campus during my Sophomore year of college in the late 80's.)
  

Do you know anyone that would want to make jewelry out of this glass?

What is the best way that I should frame this dollar? This is a valuable autograph that luckily has not been exposed to the sun over the years.

* Interesting fact: Beach glass is one of a few objects made valuable by actions of the environment on man-made litter.
