Too much?

Okay, I saw a quilt set at Target a while ago (it's not available online) that I kept meaning to write about. I kept talking myself out of it 1) don't have the money 2) not a necessity 3) may not work with my room and 4) I could make it myself if I really tried. However, the big reason was that I had a problem buying something for myself just because I liked it.

I always checked on it when I was in a store and it was never there in the full size only in twin. A few weeks ago I ran into Target right before a storm broke out and lo and behold, they had ONE, in the size I wanted, and I had a lot of time to talk myself into buying it.

However, it then sat in it's Target bag in my living room for the last three weeks because I couldn't take it out of the bag. Well, I did today and I need your help.

See... this is my headboard and my desk area across from the bed,

both using a fabric composed of rainbow color stripes which do happen to be the same shades used in the quilt, but...is it TOO MUCH?

LOVE how the shams look though!

I do have a problem with how much hot pink there is as I have never been a fan. I think the lavender pillowcases have to go too, again too much of a pink feeling.

I think I have made a decision, but please let me know your opinion, because I just don't know anymore! Thanks.

hmmm tough call! to be 100% honest as is i think it can be a touch overwhelming BUT I think it could work if you offset it with a lot of neutral pieces in the rest of the room - like side tables, rug, white pillows (which you already have) etc. I think wood would really help to tone it down a bit. On the other hand you could slip cover your headboard neutral if you really love the duvet cover...

I think it's great. Very cheerful. If you love it, keep it. And I disagree about neutal accessories. I'd throw in a red piece or two.

I think some white pillows and a white throw at the bottom would be great additions.

I think it would look more balanced if you changed the fabric on the headboard cover. Now, I'm hesitant to say that because I know you put a lot of work into the headboard cover. I like the progression of colors in the quilt set a lot and I think the rainbow fabric covering the pin board echos that nicely, but the headboard right next to the quilt might be too much. I'd like to see what the headboard looks like in the composition of the room if you drape a white or green sheet over it.

The room looks great both with and without the new quilt, cheerful and welcoming.

It is BEAUTIFUL..I love your rainbow doona cover(thats what we call them in Australia!) but I am a rainbow child and i believe that you can NEVER have too much colour. Put some navy cushions with it for sure! And buy a throw to cover some of the hot pink if you arent so keen. Throws look great in the middle of a bed too-not just the end (I work in a linen shop so I have a lot of practice with these things!!)Be confident with your colours!

Green pillows will pick up the other greens round the desk area and pull the green stripes in the middle of the doona cover into play...

I like the change! I would recover your headboard using the old green cover.

It is loud, but it's perfect for summer in my opinion! If you walk in the room and feel joy, that is all that matters. Others don't like my attraction to yellows and greens, but I can't get enough.

Keeping in mind that it is YOUR bedroom and that if you love it, that's all that matters...I think it is a touch too much. The wide stripes just don't seem very sophisticated -- I love the look of the narrow stripes of the headboard. They give that pop of color without looking like the room of a younger person.

But again, if YOU love it, that's all that matters -- I love your fearless embrace of color!

My vote: It's too much and overwhelms your headboard. There's nothing wrong with the quilt, it's just too much for what else going on in the room. Also it makes your headboard look tiny in comparison. Perhaps you can keep the quilt for another use in a different room?

I think it's very pretty, girly and "happy" :) The only thing I would do, I would maybe get different colored pillow cases (instead of the lilac color). How about a different solid color, maybe a greenish color?
