Where Have I Been?

Sorry, that I have been missing. I am in the middle of a three-week European History class that covers events from right before the French Revolution up to the turn of the twentieth century.

Yes, in only three weeks.

Therefore, posting will continue to be light for a while. However, I have a treat for you when I return.

I have been able to secure another SHELTER Study. This time, it is a peek into another beautiful small space; only 400 square feet.

Can You Help Me?

Here are two things that I have moved with me from one apartment to another. Neither of them has ever been displayed or used properly. Things like these are the true source of my clutter so please help me figure out what to do with them.
  • One $1 bill with director John Waters' autograph.
(Obtained when he came to speak on campus during my Sophomore year of college in the late 80's.)

Do you know anyone that would want to make jewelry out of this glass?

What is the best way that I should frame this dollar? This is a valuable autograph that luckily has not been exposed to the sun over the years.

* Interesting fact: Beach glass is one of a few objects made valuable by actions of the environment on man-made litter.

SHELTER Sets: A French Treat For You

A week late for Bastille Day, however...

I found some incredible screen shots of Amelie Poulain's apartment in Montmartre.

Here are just a few:

My favorite, the "Plum cake" scene.

Red, olive green, mustard yellow, and a few sharp hits of an electric blue.

Oh, and this one? It's actually a dollhouse that someone made!

Look what they have at Pier 1

A platform rocker!

Rocco rocking chair $650

"This is not your grandmother's rocking chair. Our modern-style platform rocker is crafted in a frame of solid wood. It features a stationary base and durable cotton/acrylic upholstery."

More chairs that share traits with my "mystery" chair.

First and second choices are out

The white frame blends with the mat and the whole thing disappears into the very pale blue walls.

Black, the second choice, is also not right even though it does match her mask and the temporary bedspread.

Weird, but doesn't this look like I drew a frame on the picture with a Sharpie?

I think I need to find a frame that goes with the headboard, perhaps orange. Maybe I also need to change the off-white mat to a truer white?

The Bedroom Redone

Finally, I can show you my updated bedroom, which began with the new paint job.

My take on the Wary Meyer idea I originally was going to emulate. The print is wrapping paper I received with a holiday gift that I couldn't throw it away because it was so lovely.

My new office setup, complete with new IKEA desk, computer cozy, covered bulletin boards, cork tiles, and my painted mirror.

What can they tell me about my rocking chair?

I have had this wonderful rocking chair since 1994. I bought it from this awesome furniture place called Stuckey's that used to be on Broad Street, here in Richmond. I have always been curious about its pedigree. I'm pretty sure it's a mutt but I still want to know what time period this is from and who was the manufacturer or designer. Perhaps there are other pieces, like a buffet or a dining room set.

Today I sent its image to Country Living magazine, which offers online and print appraisals of vintage finds for people. In the next few weeks, I hope to find some other places that offer similar services.

I did see a similar rocking chair years ago in an old issue of House and Garden magazine in the early 1990's. However, there was no information besides the fact that the homeowner had found it in a thrift store. Since then, I have seen nothing close.

By the way, I also sent CL a picture of my Amberina Hollywood Regency lamp hoping that they would have some additional information on that too.
